Accessibility Statement
in accordance with Annex 3 to Section 14 of the Accessibility Strengthening Act

Date of Publication: 28 June 2025
Date of Last Review: 24 June 2025

Lufthansa Aviation Training GmbH places great importance on digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are committed to providing all users with an inclusive online experience, in full compliance with the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) and all relevant accessibility standards. These include EN 301 549 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as well as the Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) and its associated regulation (BFSGV). Our goal is to make our digital services easy to use and understand for everyone.

Scope of This Statement
This accessibility statement applies to the services provided by Lufthansa Aviation Training GmbH in accordance with the BFSG, which are available on the website www.european-flight-academy.com. It was created on 24 June 2025 and is reviewed and updated as necessary.

Description of the Service in Accordance with Section 1(3), No. 5 in conjunction with No. 26 and Annex 3 of the BFSG
Through its website www.european-flight-academy.com, Lufthansa Aviation Training GmbH offers digital information, consulting, and application services related to pilot training at the European Flight Academy, a brand of Lufthansa Aviation Training GmbH. The site serves as a central digital platform for providing training information, application processes, contact options, as well as outlining the training procedures and the underlying selection criteria.

Descriptions and Explanations Necessary for Understanding Service Implementation
On the European Flight Academy website, interested individuals can learn about pilot training, request an informational brochure, subscribe to a newsletter, register for informational events, or book a DLR appointment to take the DLR test—a prerequisite for applying to the European Flight Academy.

Measures to Support Accessibility
To ensure compliance with the requirements of the BFSG and related accessibility standards, Lufthansa Aviation Training GmbH implements the following ongoing measures:

Audits: We conduct regular automatic and manual accessibility audits to systematically review our digital offerings against the WCAG 2.1 Level AA and EN 301 549 standards. These audits help us identify and eliminate potential barriers.

Training: We provide continuous and comprehensive training for our content managers, designers, and developers to ensure they are familiar with accessibility best practices and integrate these principles at every stage of content creation and development.

Integration into Development Lifecycle: Accessibility is embedded into our software development lifecycle. From initial design and planning through to testing and deployment, we follow a “born accessible” approach wherever possible.

Dedicated Accessibility Team: We have a specialized team responsible for monitoring and promoting digital accessibility initiatives across our platforms.

Conformance Status
Based on our most recent assessments, the website www.european-flight-academy.com is partially conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and the European standard EN 301 549 as referenced in the BFSG. This means that while substantial portions of the website meet the applicable digital accessibility requirements, there are still areas that need improvement to achieve full conformance. We are actively working to eliminate these remaining barriers.

Accessibility Assessment and Evaluation
As part of our ongoing compliance process, the website www.european-flight-academy.com has been thoroughly assessed by our internal accessibility experts based on the four principles of digital accessibility ("POUR"):

  • Perceivable: We reviewed the use of alternative text for non-text content, text alternatives for multimedia (e.g., captions, transcripts), sufficient color contrast for readability, and adaptable layouts without loss of information or structure.
  • Operable: We assessed keyboard operability to ensure all interactive elements are accessible via keyboard, effective focus management for assistive technology users, and appropriate control of time-based content.
  • Understandable: We checked for clear and meaningful page titles, logical heading hierarchies for easy navigation, consistent navigation mechanisms, and helpful input assistance to prevent and correct errors.
  • Robust: We ensured compatibility with a wide range of assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, magnifiers) and adherence to semantic HTML structures for reliable machine interpretation.

In addition to internal evaluations, our website has been audited by external accessibility experts. We also regularly test our websites in collaboration with users with disabilities.

Identified Accessibility Issues
Despite significant efforts, we have identified the following content and functionality areas that may not yet be fully accessible. We are actively working to resolve these issues:

  • Missing alternative text for some images – we are reviewing and updating these.
  • Inconsistent heading structure – we are standardizing semantic heading levels.
  • Non-descriptive link texts like “Click here” – we are replacing them with meaningful descriptions.
  • Complex forms and interactive elements – we are optimizing for better keyboard and screen reader use.
  • Third-party content – embedded tools may not fully meet our standards; we aim to provide accessible alternatives wherever possible.
  • PDF documents – some are not fully accessible. We are reviewing and replacing them or clearly labeling them.
  • Videos without captions or transcripts – we are adding subtitles to improve comprehension.
  • Session timeout issues – security restrictions can limit session extension; we are balancing usability with safety.
  • Missing or insufficient alternative texts for some images and graphics.
  • Incomplete form labeling – some form elements lack programmatically determinable labels or have unclear focus order.
  • Mismatched accessible names – in some cases, the accessible name does not match the visible label.
  • Not all visual elements are fully described – especially complex graphics or texts over images with low contrast.
  • Slider components – may still pose interaction challenges via keyboard.
  • Form controls – focus state is not always visually distinct.
  • Keyboard navigation – focus visibility is not consistently highlighted, particularly on form pages.
  • Focus indicator – in some areas, it’s unclear which element is currently focused when using a keyboard.
  • Low contrast – especially in text over images or decorative sections.
  • Not all content/services are fully accessible due to volume; we are continuously addressing these barriers.

A comprehensive action plan to resolve these issues is underway. Improvements will be rolled out gradually across the platform after thorough testing.
